When it comes to wedding invitations, paper is never “just paper.” The stock you choose affects not only how your invitation looks, but how it feels in your hands, how the ink sits on the surface, and even how colors appear once printed. Below, we’re sharing a guide to the papers we offer at A la Carte Paperie, along with helpful tips to make choosing easier - and to avoid surprises along the way.




A Quick (but Important) Note About Color & Proofs

Before diving into paper types, it’s important to understand how paper and color interact.

Even when we use exactly the same ink color, different paper stocks can produce slightly different tones. Why?

  • Paper grade, texture, thickness, and base color all influence how ink is absorbed.

  • A smooth matte paper will reflect color differently than a textured or cotton-based stock.

  • Recycled papers often have warmer undertones that subtly shift printed colors.


Example: If you ordered a sample printed on Linen paper and later choose to print your invitation on Cotton paper, you may notice a slight difference in color, even though the ink color remains the same.


Digital Proofs vs. Final Print

  • Digital proofs are not photographs of the final printed product.

  • Paper texture, weight, and natural fibers do not show on screen.

  • Screens display color using RGB, while printers use CMYK or Pantone - two very different systems.

  • Monitor brightness, contrast, and calibration vary from one device to another.

For these reasons, slight color variations are normal and expected. While we take every care in production, A la Carte Paperie cannot be responsible for minor variances in final printed colors.
